Rethinking Digital Sustainability in Education: from awareness to action – 11 May, 2026 at Polimi

Politecnico di Milano will host the final event of the GreenDiLT project, dedicated to digital sustainability in higher education.
The event, titled “Rethinking Digital Sustainability in Education: from awareness to action”, is scheduled for Monday 11 May, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (Aula Magna), and is organized by Marta Pinzone and Elisa Amodeo (Department of Management Engineering) together with Eleonora Perotto (Infrastructure and Services Management Area, Environmental Sustainability Unit).

Opportunities, the environmental impact of ICT and AI, measurement tools, and communication and behavior-change practices that can support a truly sustainable digital transition are the topics at the heart of the event. Thematic talks and a round table will guide the discussion among researchers, academic institutions, and stakeholders. After the introduction and presentation of the GreenDiLT project results, the first session will tackle the key question: is digital education really sustainable?

The second session, focused in particular on implementation opportunities, will present tools and initiatives already available to the academic world: from the GreenDiLT Academy to guidelines for more sustainable ICT infrastructure, as well as experience gained through the “digital sustainability” initiative.
A specific focus will be devoted to the sustainable management of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) from a circular economy perspective.

Closing the morning will be a round table featuring experts from different disciplines around the question: how can universities reconcile innovation, AI development, and commitments to social and environmental sustainability?
University students, as well as representatives of sustainability focused networks, including AWARE Polimi and RUS, will be actively involved, together with experts in digitalization, environmental management, communication, digital ethics, and international partners involved in the GreenDiLT project.
Activities will continue in the afternoon with a meeting reserved for the Seminar Ambassadors, titled: “From Results to Impact: Co-Developing Action Plans for Universities

The event is included in the program of the Sustainable Development Festival promoted by ASviS, and will also host an extraordinary collection point for electrical and electronic waste (WEEE) and used portable batteries, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in the Rectorate foyer (Building 1), offering participants the opportunity to contribute concretely to sustainable practices and receive a small gadget.

Admission is free, subject to mandatory registration via this form.
